The future of recycling for Croydon’s flats dwellers is most definitely orange.
Bright orange, in fact, made from strong plastic and decorated with words and graphics that indicate a selection of the materials that can be recycled, and collected by the council’s waste contractor.
The council is nearing completion of delivery of the robust, easily identifiable carriers to all blocks with five or more flats that are part of the council’s estates recycling scheme, as the drive to cut the amount of waste sent to landfill enters its next stage.

The City of London Corporation is the first London council to reach zero waste to landfill, with all of its residual waste and street cleansing debris now processed through energy recovery.
The corporation made a commitment in 2008 to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill by encouraging residents to reduce waste, increase participation in recycling and composting services and to send remaining waste to an energy-from-waste (EfW) plant.
