Waste Aware North East (WANE) developed out of the North East Regional Waste Awareness Initiative (NERWAI) partnership with the aim of raising awareness of waste issues and recycling opportunities. The partnership brings together local authorities in the region, the Environment Agency, WRAP, Groundwork, SITA, Premier Waste Management, Procter & Gamble, Valpak, DTA and VONNE.
The next NERF meeting will be held at Tyneside House, Skinnerburn Road, Newcastle Business Park, NE4 7AR. Registration and networking begins at 9.00am.

A recycling incentive scheme has been launched across North East England to encourage residents to recycle more of their aerosols and glass jars.
Waste Aware North East – which promotes recycling in the region – has teamed up with Durham, Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland and Northumberland councils to give residents who recycle these materials the opportunity to win a share of £10,000 worth of prizes.

In a FIRST for the region the FIVE Tees Valley Council’s have come together to let a new contract that’s helping to boost recycling rates across the Tees Valley.
Hartlepool-based J&B Recycling will service 74 sites on behalf of Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar & Cleveland.
The sites feature more than 340 new containers and more frequent collections, enabling residents to recycle more than ever.
